Cosmetic Fillers
As we age, our faces begin to show the effects of gravity, sun exposure and years of facial muscle movement, such as smiling, chewing and squinting. The underlying tissues that keep our skin looking youthful and plumped up begin to break down, often leaving laugh lines, smile lines, crow's feet or facial creases over the areas where this muscle movement occurs. Fillers are a non-surgical advancement in facial rejuvenation. Soft-tissue fillers can help fill in these lines and creases, temporarily restoring a smoother, more youthful-looking appearance. When injected beneath the skin, these fillers plump up creased and sunken areas of the face and can also add fullness to the lips and cheeks. Do the injections hurt? Most people find that the injections cause only mild, temporary discomfort. What will you look like after the treatment?Immediately following treatment, you may notice some minor discomfort, stinging or throbbing in the injected area. Occasionally some bruising or swelling will occur, but it is usually minor. Any redness that appears in the injected site usually disappears within 2-5 days. How many treatments will I need?At the time of your appointment, Dr. Lotstein will estimate the degree of correction needed to achieve your goals. All of the products contain from .3 ccs to 1.3 cc’s of material. Where some areas may only need the minimal correction, other areas may need more. Six weeks after a treatment, we recommend a follow-up appointment to recheck the area. What type of filler do I need?Dr. Lotstein with her vast experience with all the fillers she offers will recommend the best filler for your area of concern. Cosmetic fillers have been formulated to last from 6 months to 5 years. However, the duration of any product also depends on the amount of movement the injected area will undergo in a persons daily life. Are there any side effects?Fillers on the market today has been researched, analyzed and tested by Dr. Lotstein. The fillers offered by UltimA Medical Spa are safe. CosmodermWhat is Cosmoderm?Cosmoderm is similar to collagen which is a naturally occurring protein that provides support to various parts of the human body: the skin, the joints, the bones and the ligaments. Injectable collagen is derived from purified bovine collagen. It is often used on the lips and more superficial areas. Its advantage is minimal swelling, smoother appearance immediately after treatment, but it lasts the shortest of any filler. RestylaneWhat is Restylane?Restylane is composed of hyaluronic acid which is a naturally occurring substance, a sugar molecule, present in all living organisms providing volume and fullness. Restylane uses include contouring of the cheeks, mouth, eyebrows and filling in wrinkles of the lower eyelids. What distinguishes Restylane from other dermal fillers is the way in which Restylane permeates the dermal tissue and naturally binds to water molecules. Through this action, the modified water molecules assist in achieving and maintaining volume possessing a natural appearance. It is currently one of the best fillers for the lips; however, one must be aware of its initial swelling immediately after a treatment. Cool packs are used to decrease this swelling. Restylane’s affect can last from 6 to 12 months. SculptraWhat is Sculptra?Sculptra is an injectable product that restores and corrects the signs of facial fat loss by replacing lost volume. It is perfect filler for people with a significant amount of volume loss or someone that wants to have correction without anyone aware of the treatments. It is composed of poly-L-lactic acid, a synthetic material. It is not made from human or animal sources and does not require a skin test. Poly-L-lactic acid does not harm the body and is broken down by the body eventually. Sculptra has been widely used for many years in dissolvable stitches and soft tissue implants and is extremely safe. It provides a gradual increase in skin thickness. Visible results appear within the first few treatment sessions. There is no need to do a skin test before being treated. Fat TransferWhat is Fat Transfer?Human fat harvested from your own body, can be reinjected to enhance facial fullness, fill deep creases and to build up shallow contours. Fat injection requires an extra procedure than other injectable fillers because it uses liposuction techniques often by a simple syringe procedure to extract the fat prior to injection. How long will Fat Transfers last?Almost all patients will permanently retain some of the injected fat; however, this percentage varies from patient to patient. Fat is added to the area in several treatments until the desired look is achieved. Treatment results can last 6 months up to permanently. Fat can be stored for your own use later, but the preserved fat is not as favorable as fat used at the same time of harvest. However, it is exciting that the new techniques used in fat transfer are improving the percentage of fat that stays in an injection area up to 90% of permanency. |
