Botox®About BOTOX® CosmeticBotox® is a naturally occurring protein that has the ability to relax muscles into which it is injected. This relaxation may be partial or complete, depending on the amount of Botox® used and on the relative strength of the muscle into which it is injected. The relaxation produced by Botox® is temporary (usually 3-4 months), as the treated muscle will gradually regain it's ability to contract. In 2005, 3.3 million procedures were done with FDA-approved Botox® Cosmetic. The American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery ranked Botox® Cosmetic as the most popular physician-administered aesthetic procedure in the United States for the fourth year in a row. What can BOTOX® cosmetic do for me?After years of squinting, laughing, smoking, or worrying, the skin around the eyes and on the forehead develops deep lines and wrinkles, which can often make you, look older, tired, or stressed. Frown lines are created by the bunching of skin from facial muscle contractions - eventually causing a permanent furrow. Frown lines give our face a frustrated, discouraged, angry look that is distracting to others and a bother to us. The treatment is ideal for relaxing those facial muscles whose excessive action causes wrinkling of the skin. Botox® can effectively treat deep lines between the eyebrows (frown lines), lines around the eyes (crow's feet) and horizontal forehead lines. By relaxing the muscles that typically act to lower the eyebrows, Botox® can also help lift droopy eyebrows, called the “Eyebrow Lift”. Other areas that can be treated are: upper lips, neck bands, down turned lips and dimples of the chin. Procedure:Botox® is injected with a very fine needle into the specific muscle. The procedure takes minutes to complete and immediately afterwards you may resume regular activities. The effect may be visible within a few days, but maximum results are reached between 10-14 days. Each time you visit Dr. Lotstein, she will look at the area of concern and estimate the amount of Botox you may need each time you receive Botox. An adequately treated area will last 3 to 4 months. Ask Dr. Lotstein how you can get those wrinkles to go away for up to fifteen to twenty four months! |
