I hear that you use the Epilight Hair Removal System, can you tell me more about it?

Epilight Hair removal system is a non-ablative Intense Pulsed Light system composed of multiple wavelengths of light specifically designed to eliminate undesired hair from all parts of the body. Specific filters are used to achieve the optimal hair removal for your specific color and texture of hair.  The Epilight is FDA approved for permanent hair reduction. After many years of usage, its effectiveness has stood the test of time.

How does the Epilight compare to what else is out there?

According to a competitive comparison from actual data submitted to the FDA in order to achieve FDA clearance, the Epilight results showed an average reduction rate of greater than 84% at 24 months in a comparison to the two only other lasers approved to claim permanent Hair Reduction: The Coherent (LightSheer) 1 year following 2-6 treatments at 46.6% reduction, The Palomar (Ruby) laser 2 years following 2-6 treatments was 55% reduction. Also, because these are true lasers (they only possess one wavelength), treatment is much more uncomfortable and the length of treatment is longer due to the smaller filter size used.

How much hair will be removed?

Hair grows in phases; actively growing, resting and finished growth. At the time of your laser treatment, hair effectively treated is the “actively growing” hair.  After laser treatments, some patients notice a dramatic reduction in the number of hairs that don't grow back and a long delay before hairs that are lighter in color and fine in thickness that may replace the area. Results are dependent on many factors: color of your hair, exposure to the sun, energy level that can be safely used, and coarseness of the hair.

After years of research and experience, six treatments spaced from 6 to 12 weeks apart is optimal to remove the most hair. Permanent optimal reduction of 85 - 90% is possible and often what hair remains is finer, lighter and less noticeable.

How does the Epilight System remove hair?

The Epilight pulsed optical light is pulsed or turned on for a fraction of a second.  The light and energy emitted by the laser is selectively absorbed by the pigment in your hair follicle.  The duration of this pulse is just long enough to disable the follicle but not so long that excess heat is transferred to the surrounding skin.  To assure a safe treatment further skin protection is provided by a special cooling gel.  The treatment is generally a comfortable and well-tolerated office procedure.  Treatment times vary from 15 minutes for small zones to longer for larger areas.

Are there any side effects?

You may experience some short term side effects such as: slight temporary redness or/& swelling. There are no restrictions of activities after treatment. However we ask that you not tan during treatments at least two weeks before and 2 weeks after a treatment, due to possible side effects. Hair may seem to grow up to 2-3 weeks after a treatment and that is often the treated hair working its way out of the hair follicle.

Who is a good candidate for Epilight hair removal?

The ideal candidate has dark hair and a fair to medium skin tone. However, hair in all people except black-colored skin can have Intense Pulse Light hair removal done safely.
